Measuring the Smallest Air Pollutants: Scientists Gather in
Atlanta for Month-Long Study of Fine Particulate Matter
Scientists from around the world have gathered in Atlanta this
month to determine the best ways to measure the fine particulate
matter that is polluting the nation's air, particularly in large
urban areas. In the first of two "SuperSite" studies initiated
by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), about 60 scientists
from the Georgia Institute of Technology and other institutions
have converged at an Atlanta air quality research facility owned
by Georgia Power.
